I was hoping to read a good synopsis of the differences between conservatism and libertarianism.

It is important to develop this analysis because too many lay-people think of libertarians as Republicans/Conservatists lite, not realizing that the pedigree stems from a completely different origin.

I like the analogy. Prison, that's absolutely right. But the media is just as imprisoned as we are. No one calls into question the validity of a law currently on the books. And no one ever applauds legislators when they shoot down laws, only when they add new laws. Shooting down crappy laws is just important as introducing truly reformative legislation.

I am an outspoken public skeptic of man-made global warming but your logic behind worrying about burying molecular oxygen when sequestering CO2 is baseless. Molecular oxygen (O2) makes up more than a fifth of the lower atmosphere and there is little danger of it running out by sequestering it as part of CO2.

Man-made carbon geo-sequestration is simply a waste of money. Unfortunately if the present administration has its way, it is my money and your money that is being wasted. Carbon taxes are simply a way to further hobble the freedoms of the individual and the economies of the industrialized nations.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is the primary unit in the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), serving as both a federal criminal investigative body and a domestic intelligence agency. Landing employment with the Federal Bureau of Investigation will not only get you a bigger payday, but will ensure you won' need payday loans to get by.. Federal Government jobs involve good pay, and the benefits are among the best a person can get. Although the economy is currently in crisis, fighting crime is still a lucrative trade evidently, because the FBI is going on the biggest hiring binge since October 2001. The FBI is hiring almost 3,000 new employees, including 850 positions available for special agents, all of which won’t be needing payday loans for a very long time. However, regardless of how many positions are open, the FBI is one of the most exclusive employers. They are absolutely selective when it comes to hiring employees. Even the most basic of positions require a credit check, four year degree, extensive experience, top secret clearance and an unimpeachable background. They are looking for the best, and only the best need apply. Check out this article if you want to learn more about payday loans, or to read more about what it takes to become an FBI Agent.

So many of these needed principles-in-action simply come down to the need to make objective laws, that is laws that are functionally independent of arbitrary manipulation.
Giving monetary value wiggle room only serves those who can manipulate its value, not anyone else. When money is tied to an actual commodity, then the worth of that money is fixed to something that is very hard if not impossible to manipulate, which in turn serves all the users of that currency - the immutability of a unit medium of exchange is what makes currency more practical than bartering. If that unit of exchange is variable (particularly if by intentional means), then currency exchange may more convenient but is in fact unreliable, and a boondoggle for anyone who has convinced themselves that it carries any value.

There are some differences between conservatives and libertarians. Among them are

The war on drugs
Iraq
Burning the flag (Free speech)
The Patriot Act
Gays (gay rights abd gays in the military)

This may well be one of several differences that show up in comparing libertarians with conservatives. I have been least offended with government when it has given me a way to earn privileges through examination, as with ham and commercial radio licenses, a drivers license, and a pilots license. Many young people earn adult privileges early in this way.

Another way in which this might be done without arbitrary age cutoffs, or even without government as we know it today, might be through liability bonds and insurance. Underwriters could provide testing and licensing for risky skills, then set rates based on their assessment of the risk. Young people might have to wait until they can afford the required premiums.

Answer: The donations were "bundled" by Mr. Hsu from multiple sources.

See the article here for a lot of background info: http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB118956680238724783.html?mod=blog

"In checks no larger than $2,300 apiece -- the legal limit for donations to single candidates for a primary or a general election -- Mr. Hsu also raised more than $850,000 for New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential campaign."

Bob - Libertarians don't spend enough time exploring the extent and range of the law. So many of our freedoms are lost to common law being subverted by statutes. One solution to eminent domain would be the ability to convert property titles into an Allodial arrangement. The libertarian movement tends to stay in the economic, rights and political arenas. The reality is that we need more lawyers of our type. Keep up the good work.
